Aquaman Celebrity Jason Momoa is the latest to be Allegedly attached to the star-studded cast of Dune, the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 epic sci-fi Book from Blade Runner 2049 Manager Denis Villeneuve.
He joins a cast that includes Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible — Fallout), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years), Javier Bardem (Skyfall), and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War). Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming) will also be in talks.
Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter were the first to report on Momoa’s potential involvement in the Dune reboot, which is slated to start production in Budapest and Jordan this spring. Duncan Idaho has a small presence in the first Dune book, but the personality turned into such a fan favourite that Herbert brought back him — he dies in the first book, spoiler alert to get a 50-year-old-plus novel — for subsequent novels. Skarsgård will play the villain figure Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, with Bautista set because his sadistic henchman Glossu Rabban. Rampling will perform Reverend Mother Mohiam, who can deduce lies and aids the ruler of this desert planet Arrakis, which is highly coveted to be the sole supply of a medication known as melange — usually known as”the spice” from the book — the most valuable material in Dune’s fictional world. Bardem will play Stilgar, the chief of a Fremen tribe, while Brolin was cast as Gurney Halleck. Zendaya has been eyed as Chani, the love interest of Paul.
Momoa became known to audiences as Khal Drogo on the very first season of Game of Thrones in 2011. He’s now famous for playing the titular character in Aquaman — that is currently that the highest-grossing DC picture of all-time — a role he donned in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
